Splicer Contest: Miss Mustard

For the #Bioshockfanatics design-a-splicer contest, I present to you: Miss Mustard.

Her name was something ordinary like Rosie* or Billie. Before the madness that was all-out civil war, she worked in Hephaestus, putting together mighty machines of metal that would harness the power of the geothermal vents. All very intense stuff. Unfortunately, Rapture has no workers' unions, and so the safety standards were about what you'd expect with a money-hungry aristocrat in charge. There were a lot of accidents.

It was fine, Miss Mustard just stayed cautious. But with the civil war and all the splicing she started doing, caution turned into rampant paranoia. She became convinced that everything was deadly, from the most innocuous objects to the air itself. It peaked into true splicer insanity when she started "mercy-killing" people who actually had nothing wrong with them, thinking that they'd inhaled noxious gases from the vents.

She became obsessed with that; she sometimes even imagines the poisonous gases to be sentient and out to get her. She painted eyes on her hands and holds them over her mask when she sleeps, so that the gases don't know she's off her guard.

Under the bandages, her skin is covered in nasty sores. Maybe it's the ADAM. Maybe she really has been poisoned. Or maybe she's just convinced herself of being poisoned so well that her body has started to believe it too.

Besides the sores, and the hair which she's shaven off for hygiene reasons, Miss Mustard isn't all that physically disfigured. I wanted to play around with someone whose mind, rather than body, has been uniquely twisted by ADAM abuse and the hellhole that is Rapture.
